a story of friendship
Our story began well over a decade ago with a simple monthly happy hour among friends. As several local LGBT bars closed, this small meetup became the seed of a vibrant community. With each passing year, our following grew, drawing people from further away who sought friendship and connection.
The pandemic in 2020 brought in-person social activities to a halt. Many also relocated to New Jersey for work, safety, or a change of pace, often without previous community ties. As restrictions lifted, the undeniable need for genuine, in-person connections emerged. In 2022, several of us regrouped, branded ourselves as Gay Social, and expanded our initial concept by exploring new locations and activities, with a continued focus on fostering friendship and community.
Today, Gay Social is a thriving community with over 2,000 active followers across the state. Officially established and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2024, Gay Social is dedicated to bringing LGBT people together to connect, celebrate, and support each other through the power of friendship.
