Melissa Firstenberg
Burlington County Community Manager
Growing up in central Jersey (which does exist), Melissa moved to Marlton in south Jersey after college in Philadelphia. At work, Melissa is a trusted industrial cybersecurity leader. When not at work, Melissa is a passionate advocate and activist for the LGBTQ+ community. In addition to her volunteer roles, Melissa works to establish opportunities for social inclusion for the LGBTQ+ community in the Jersey burbs of Philly.
"I am super excited by the opportunity to enhance community through my new role as a Community Manager with Gay Social. Over the past few years, I have been privileged to have an outlet for my strongly held beliefs in fairness and human rights for all through involvement with organisations such as Jersey Pride, Garden State Equality, A4TE, and New Hope Celebrates.
Many of you may know me from my work in Marlton and neighboring towns to create inclusive spaces for all. Through my work serving on multiple Boards of Trustees, as well as continuing as the founder and co-chair of Kulanu (an LGBTQ+ inclusive Jewish affinity group), it is my joy to work for equality. But we need more – we, the people of the LGBTQ+ community, need connection! And that’s why I am here. We have some exciting things planning in the Burlington and Camden County areas building on the strength of our Third Thursday program in Westmont.
As a former coach (soccer, field hockey, baseball and softball) and league coordinator, I believe in the value of recreational sports for all. I am an active person, and I hope to bring a mix of active and relaxing social opportunities for all of us to build real and lasting relationships. When not at work or volunteering, Melissa enjoys alpine skiing, football (aka soccer), theater, and spending time with her three children."
