Gregory Elfers
Director of Fundraising
Gregory “Greg” Elfers is a fundraising professional and community builder with over a decade of experience leading donor engagement and development initiatives for major arts and higher education institutions. A lifelong New Jersey resident, he brings his passion for connection and access to his work as Director of Development and community advocate.
"I’ve always believed connection is what makes life meaningful — the moment when people feel seen, valued, and part of something bigger than themselves. That belief has shaped my entire career.
For more than a decade, I helped build community through the arts at the Metropolitan Opera and the New York Philharmonic, creating spaces where generosity and shared passion could thrive. While serving as Social Director of the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus, I started “NYCGMC Night at the Opera,” an annual event that blended my love of music and belonging — and reminded me how powerful it is when art brings people together.
Now, as Associate Director of Philanthropic Engagement at Montclair State University, I get to channel that same energy into something close to home. As a lifelong New Jersey resident, working in public higher education feels deeply personal — a way to give back to the place that shaped me.
At my core, I’m driven by community, collaboration, and connection. Whether it’s through a concert, a campus event, or a simple conversation, I believe in creating spaces where people can come together and feel like they belong."
