frequently asked questions
Gay Social hosts in-person LGBTQ social events across New Jersey designed to make meeting people feel easier and more natural. Whether you’re coming alone, new to the area, or attending your first LGBTQ event, this page covers what to expect and how our events work.

attending an event
do I need to be a member to attend?
No. Gay Social does not have a membership. Some events may require an RSVP or a ticket, but you do not need to join or sign up for the organization to be part of the Gay Social community.
do I need to rsvp or signup in advance?
Most Gay Social events do not require an RSVP unless stated on the event detail page. If an RSVP or ticket is required, it will always be noted.
do events cost money?
Most Gay Social events are free to attend unless otherwise stated. For most events, food and drinks are typically on your own unless noted on the event listing. For events that do have a cost to attend, we work with venues to offer discounted group rates or specials for attendees.
are events for adults only?
Yes. Gay Social events are adult social LGBTQ+ gatherings. Age requirements vary by event and are always listed. Some events are 18 plus, while others are 21 plus or 23 plus depending on the venue.
what to expect
what actually happens at an event?
Events are casual and social. People arrive, mingle, and connect at their own pace. Some events may include a dedicated activity or theme, which is designed to help make connecting easier.
is it ok to come alone?
Absolutely. Many people attend their first Gay Social event on their own. Each event has a dedicated Community Manager to welcome you and help make introductions.
what makes your events different?
Gay Social events are designed to be social gatherings focused on connection and building local LGBTQ+ community, not political, religious, or educational programming. Each event has a designated Community Manager who welcomes attendees, helps people connect, and supports a friendly, inclusive atmosphere.
are these dating events?
Gay Social events are platonically social, not matchmaking focused events. While people may form other connections, the primary focus of our events is building local LGBTQ+ community and helping people connect in organic ways.
what if I see someone I know or have 'history' with?
That can happen, especially in local close-knit LGBTQ communities. Sometimes people find that shared history becomes easier over time, and friendships can even form, though that is never a requirement. However, respectful behavior is always expected, and you’re never required to interact with anyone you don’t want to. Our Community Managers are available if you’d like support navigating the space or meeting new people.
is there a dress code?
There is no set dress code for Gay Social events. People are welcome to dress in ways that reflect their identity and feel comfortable to them. Some events take place at more casual venues, while others may be held at more upscale spaces, so we ask that attendees dress appropriately for the venue hosting the event.

inclusivity and belonging
are events inclusive of all lgbtq+ identities?
Yes. Gay Social events are inclusive spaces for all LGBTQ+ identities. Each event brings together a mix of people from across the LGBTQ community, and the group will vary from event to event. You are welcome as you are.
are events age-inclusive?
Gay Social events are designed for adults, and attendees span a wide range of ages. As long as you meet the listed age requirement for an event, you are welcome to attend.
locations and schedule
are your events only in new jersey?
Yes. Gay Social's organization mission is to serve the LGBTQ+ community of New Jersey.
why isn't there an event near me yet?
We’re working toward hosting events in every county in New Jersey. We are growing intentionally to ensure each location offers a consistent, welcoming experience and strong community support, rather than expanding too quickly.
how often do events happen?
Events happen regularly throughout the month in different parts of New Jersey. Some events are recurring and take place monthly, while others rotate by location or occur seasonally.
how do I find upcoming events?
All upcoming events are listed on our Upcoming Events page, where you’ll find dates, locations, and any special notes related to the event. You can also stay up to date by signing up for our newsletter or following Gay Social on Facebook and Instagram.
